One More Newbie

From: Sissy (SissyleFaye@yahoo.com) | Date: 2004-01-15 19:12:14 UTC-08:00
Hi,

I'm another newbie to this group and to letterboxing. I live in Dallesport, WA, right along the Columbia River Gorge. Thanks to the person that mentioned the yahoo group that is made up of mostly PNW folks.

This looks like great fun, and I look forward to spending many pleasant hours enjoying nature and hunting for boxes.

Hey all ~

I am new to letterboxing and this group as well. I went with my addicted mother and sisters in Oregon...and I am hooked now too. I currently live in the Nashville area, and there aren't many around here...but when I go home to Oregon I will have to really go searching. I want to plant some in this area and spread the word. I think I have lots of friends that would be interested.

Any one from TN?

Have a GREAT weekend!
~ Stephanie

Hello Stephanie,

Yes I am in TN, and it's good to hear from someone in the same area. I
haven't planted any boxes yet but, I'm working on it.
I live about a 2 hour drive approximately South East of Nashville, again
welcome to the wonderful world of letterboxing!

Stephanie,

There aren't too many around Nashville but the oens you have are quite nice!

Keep in mind that if you plant them, they will come!

Welcome to the addiction.

Welcome to our addiction!!

Sure, there are plenty planted in buildings - libraries, restaurants, even in people's homes!!

Have fun and just get out there & box!!!

Stephanie -- I live in south Louisiana which is not exactly a big
hiking state since temps are frequently in the 90s with relative
humidity usually equaling the temp. Not to mention the creepy-
crawlies, ranging from tiny 'skeeters to 12 foot alligators...

Therefore, all of my boxes so far have been placed in cities.
Mostly I put them outdoors rather than inside so that they will be
available to hunters 24/7. I did place one inside a bookstore, with
permission. But it's a really, really cool bookstore and they keep
long hours. It's one of my favorite carvings, though, so I might do
it again and place a copy outside as well for after-hours hunters.

In general, I think even urban boxes should be outdoors so they'll
be more readily available. They can be near an attraction you want
to spotlight.

Urban letterboxing has it's own challenges. Finding a hiding place
in a crowd of people is tough. Evading custodians and
groundskeepers likewise. I'm quickly learning that smaller is
better. One I'm working on right now will fit into the tiny plastic
case that a compact flash card comes in.

Oh my dang Zed....I feel inspired!!! The environment here in Nashville is much the same...although not nearly as hot and humid. I have been trying to look, as I drive for interesting places to put them...and with some purpose. I totally forgot that I would get the opt. to carve more stamps. I have only done one so far...but really enjoyed it. Thanks for all your tips...they are very useful and I will remember them all as I plant boxes.

Thank you...have a GREAT day!
